May 4, 2015 – 14 Weeks, another Kaiser visit & meet up with SCMOM’s…

We went to Kaiser this morning for an ultrasound of Rachel’s gall bladder and liver. She had blood work done on our last visit. The doctor noticed that she had elevated liver functions and as a precaution she scheduled a sonogram to see if there were any kidney/gall stones. (Update: we just found out that everything is normal – no stones!!!) We were hoping to sneak a peak at the babies, but the technician said that she couldn’t because of liability issues. Basically if she found a problem, she would be at fault because that was not the reason for our visit. Totally understandable, but it would have been nice to see them since our last visit was almost 2 weeks ago! Rachel is still feeling nauseous from the effects of morning sickness, some days are better than others and that is a positive!

SCMOM

Last Thursday we met up with our local mothers of multiples support group – Sonoma County Mothers of Multiples (http://www.SCMOM.org). What a great group of ladies! We had dinner and attended their board meeting. They have all kinds of family friendly events – from participating in parades, to museum visits, family picnics, hikes, dinners, etc. These ladies are ACTIVE!!! It was really nice to meet and chat with people that have first hand knowledge/experience with the challenges that we were about to face. Saturday night they had a Mother’s Day dinner event and Rachel went with her mom.(it was mothers only, so I got to watch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight with some buddies 🙂 ). If you are an expectant parent of multiples – PLEASE contact and join your local support group!!! I can’t tell you what a great feeling it was to be in the presence of other parents that have done it before and that can understand what you are going through.

We leave for Hawaii in 2 1/2 weeks, I am looking forward to a mini-vacation (it could be a while before we get another chance to get away, just the 2 of us!) I’m a little apprehensive of travelling, but the doctors and nurses have assured us that everything will be fine. Rachel will be 17 weeks during our trip, most doctor’s don’t recommend air travel for expectant mothers of multiples past 24 weeks gestation. Rachel agreed to the chair ride from airport security to the time we board the plane. There’s no sense in standing for an extended period of time if you don’t have to, right? I wasn’t sure how that one would fly, but she happily agreed!

That’s it for now! 🙂
