November 5, 2015 – The New Routine…

Good Morning!

7Weeks

Everybody is doing great. We are off to the Pediatrician today. I just thought it would be good to give everyone a timeline of what a typical day looks like around our house. We have established a daily routine that is kind of working for us! We have been trying to differentiate daytime vs. night-time for the babies. To do this, we have implemented what we call ‘Dark Feedings’.

A ‘Dark Feeding’ consists of the following:

  1. Wake up baby
  2. Change Diaper
  3. Feed / Burp
  4. Swaddle
  5. Lay back down to sleep

A couple of important things to note about ‘Dark Feedings’:

  • We keep the lights down to a minimum. We have a small halogen shelf light in the stairs closet (you can find these at a hardware store, it runs on AAA batteries) that we use to diaper change/feed.
  • No TV, Radio or other distractions from 10pm to 6am
  • No talking to the babies during feeding or diaper changing

Here is a typical day at our house –

  • Midnight: DARK FEEDING Wake up first baby (Makani), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib
  • 1230AM: DARK FEEDING Wake up second baby (Keoni), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib
  • 0100AM: DARK FEEDING Wake up third baby (Kaleo), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib
  • 0300AM: DARK FEEDING Wake up first baby (Makani), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib
  • 0330AM: DARK FEEDING Wake up second baby (Keoni), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib
  • 0400AM: DARK FEEDING Wake up third baby (Kaleo), change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, lay back down in crib

Start of Daytime Feedings – Lights on, Curtains open, Sing, Talk & Read to the babies!!!

  • 0600AM: Wake up first baby (Makani), wash face & head change diaper, feed, burp, swaddle, put in bouncer

Love that you are incorporating “tummy time” for the little guys! Went to a workshop last week about the importance of “play” for our students/babies! You two are incredible, have fun!

      • Hi, Paul.
I’m fine. I was (am) missing: tons of work, many personal things and trying to learn Japanese myself (I’m crazy, I know).
My vacation will start next February: 78 days and counting 🙂
Your triplets are so cute. God bless you! And remember: if someday do you really feel tired, thinking in that: things are going to be worse than before 🙂 🙂
        Cheers
        Wil
